Velib' app / defect notification

Velib' app / defect notification feature
As a frequent Velib' user, I often end up picking up a bike which has some hidden defect that the classic "is-this-bike-ok check" (a.k.a. no flat tire, secured saddle, pedals actually spinning).

As I find it annoying, I would often wish to report the defect on the bike after a ride. Yet the official Velib app doesn't provide such feature, which is why, I took the liberty of designing what it could be.

A. Adding the option within the current app

The app already has a "my account" feature which gives the user 6 informations:

3 about the user's recent activity:
3 about the user's account:

As we want to be able to notify a defect after a rental, I added button on the "latest ride" area.
This button uses the orange from the "V" in the "Velib'" logo & takes the same shape as other .

B. Creating the defect notification page

The idea is to make it as user intuitive as possible. No one would want to spend too much time for this. I decided to re-use the Velib' icon from the "my account" page, and use it as a tool to precise the observed defect.

The user would be able to select the area of the bike which as a defect, add a comment if necessary, and hit the "send" button.
The default defect zone are the ones were most of the defect are located. The comment field allow the user to precise or report any other kind of details regarding the issue.

C. Conclusion

This simple feature could be useful for frequent Velib' users wishing to better the service.

For JC Decaux - which runs Velib', these data could be use for predictive maintenance on bikes and removing damaged bikes faster. Data could also be used to improve the bikes by identifying common flaws.
